Joy School

Miriam is at Joy School right now. I can't believe how nice it is to have 1 hour free in the morning! Miriam loves it too, which is the greatest part.

I sent the link for Joy School, but basically it is a mother run pre-school. Mothers just rotate teaching and assisting teaching pre-school. The program is set up to be taught twice a week for 3 & 4 year olds. Our group is doing it once a week because we have 2& 3 year olds. We are using the Joy School curriculum (we bought it) but you could come up with your own..or leave it up to each mother to decide what to teach. I like the Joy School lessons for now because they don't focus on letters or numbers but on discovering the world around us. For instance, we are currently on "Joy of the Body" lessons. It really seems to peek Miriam's curiosity. She is also spending time with other kids, without me right there which I think is good.

I love Joy School! Posted by Picasa

Potty Training Fun

So......here we go potty training FOR REAL this time. We tried pretty panties, stickers, and it seems Miriam's golden ticket is treats. She is so much like her mom, very motivated by sweet things. We have potty on the brain so it shouldn't have surprised me when Miriam saw the handicap sign and said "That means someone needs to go potty!". Anyway it's going pretty well, (the potty training) it's just cramping my style having to stop and take her to the bathroom, or ask her all the time if she needs to go. I love being on the go, and this is really slowing me down.

Tips from Miriam Being Trained:

1. Gummie worms, swedish fish, or marshmallows.
2. Pull-ups even the feel wet or feel cold when pee ones didn't work well for us.
3. We bought this portable, foldable potty seat to take to public restrooms (sanitary with handles so they don't have to hold on to the toilet seat and won't fall in).
4. Timing is everything. She was interested in the pretty panties but just not ready to make the switch until now.

Shopping with Julia

Julia and I went on a marathon shopping spree today. I have been holding out on buying clothes until I lose 10 lbs, but it was getting ridiculous, I looked like a bag lady 80% of the time. Darin was exasperated. Julia was shopping to coordinate outfits for her vacation to Denver with the her in-laws. She had everyday planned out and needed specific items to complete her ensembles. Definitely the most fashionable of the Rasmussen sisters! I just have to say that if anyone wants to go shopping Julia is THE BEST companion. She is honest, she pushes you to get the things you love (sometimes not a financial benefit), and she never tires of playing with Miriam while I search. I came away with 2 pairs of pants, two shirts, two cute headbands and this seasons "uniform" (tracksuit). Thanks Julia!! To quote Miriam "your the best in the wooold!"

The picture is in honor of Julia's last recital at the Winner School last weekend. The dances she choreographed this year took 1st place at state competitions. She has done an amazing job and will go on to do great and wonderful things in Price. Posted by Picasa

My First Blog

I'm just experimenting! Here are the two loves of my life.
I have fallen in love with the blogging world after being introduced to Kristi's very entertaining blogs as well as her talented and insiteful friends. I now check in on them almost daily.
I resisted starting my own due to insecurity and a fear I would try to impress others and not be honest or real. Then the other day Miriam said "Mom, my feet are butter, I need get new ones at Target...and a cookie" (because her Ruby slippers were grimey and sweaty and her feet were slipping around AND Target gives free cookies to kids). I thought, I NEED to be writing this stuff down. I just can't seem to write in my journal until night time, when my mind is too tired to remember. Since I now check others blogs everyday, why not get this stuff down somewhere?! So, I will try my hardest not to get wrapped up in trying to impress anyone or try to be something I am not and focus on being myself. The trial will be to not obsess about past posts.
